The drawing on this plate is slightly more accomplished than many of the royal delft portraits of the eighteenth century. Its design source appears to be a 1714 painting by Sir Godfrey Kneller from which many engravings and other paintings were derived. The Bristol attribution is based on the shape of the plate.
