Urn-shaped sugar dish with sixteen evenly spaced flutes and concave circular shoulder. Base consists of square plinth and circular concave foot. Circular concave lid is surmounted by a low dome and a circular urn-shaped finial. Sides of body engraved with narrow band of meandering vine above bright cut swags and tassels. Foot engraved with leaves and scallop border.
Mark(s): "WH" stamped in relief in rectangle on side of base (Mark "E", page 553 of Patricia E. Kane, Colonial Massachusetts Silversmith and Jewelers (Yale University Art Gallery, 1998).
Inscription(s): Foliate script monogram "JW" engraved on side of body.
