In 1759, James Tarpley purchased the lot on the corner of Duke of Gloucester and Botetourt Streets, near Henry Wetherburn's tavern in Williamsburg, Virginia, and shortly thereafter began construction of "a new storehouse." This broadside, executed by a skilled engraver, lists a remarkable variety of luxury goods that were imported to Tarpley's store and sold in Williamsburg. Once these goods were sold and new shipments arrived, broadsides such as these would have been discarded, highlighting the importance of this unique survival.
