This map was drawn by Major Michel Capitaine du Chesnoy, an aide to Lafayette, to indicate the lines of march and areas of action encountered by both Lafayette and the other colonial forces. Maps of this type were produced in manuscript form by teams of surveyors and engineers accompanying the troops. Another copy of this map is thought to exist. It is described in Andre Girodie, EXPOSITION DU CENTENAIRE DE LAFAYETTE 1757-1834, CATALOGUE (Paris, 1934), pp. 67-68. (Note from Research Dept.)
