Congress Proclaims an End to the War
The Continental Congress issues a proclamation "Declaring the Cessation of Arms" against Britain. Four days later, it approves the preliminary peace terms. The final document — the Treaty of Paris — is signed on September 3 and ratified by Congress on January 14, 1784.
