The Siege of Yorktown Begins
After the final guns are put into place, the French and American artillery open fire on Cornwallis's position in the afternoon. Night assaults on October 14 seize two important British redoubts that allow the Allied forces to dig trenches closer to the town and fire their cannon to more devastating effect.
