The Battle of Great Bridge
Regular and loyalist troops — including former slaves — are ordered by Lord Dunmore to attack a fortified patriot position near Great Bridge, nine miles from Norfolk, Virginia. An eyewitness informs a friend that "the king's troops gave way, after sustaining considerable loss, and behaving like true-born Englishmen."
