Congress Adopts Olive Branch Petition
The Continental Congress adopts John Dickinson's Olive Branch Petition to the King as a final effort to avoid war. It celebrates the union between Britain and the colonies and blames George III's ministers for enacting unconstitutional laws. The King refused to read the document.
