Grafton Takes Over Government from Chatham
Although the ministry remains in Chatham's name, the Duke of Grafton takes over its effective leadership. A month later, Lord Hillsborough fills the new office of Secretary of State for the Colonies and advocates swift and direct action against American opposition to the Townshend Duties.
