Virginia House of Burgesses Protests Stamp Tax
Meeting in Williamsburg, the House of Burgesses adopts strongly worded protests to the King and Parliament arguing that Virginians hold the same rights as British subjects, including the right not to be taxed but by their own consent through their representatives. A stamp tax would therefore be unconstitutional because Virginians are not represented in Parliament.
